Allie – ADOPTED!
I’m Allie, an 11-month-old female GSP. You may remember reading about me when the rescue posted me on their Face Book page when I ran off after arriving on a transport from Kansas because I was so terrified. But, obviously, they found me.! I am very smart (most GSPs are!) and as a black pup, I’m kind of unusual and really quite beautiful. I came to the rescue having been relinquished by my owner, apparently because he didn’t have very much time for me. That’s an important thing to know because I will need to be with someone or a family that has lots of time for me. I’m still a puppy and will need training and plenty of quality time to bond with my new owner. A new person does make me nervous but after spending a little time or after a few visits I will fall in love! And then I will hug, lean in and want to use him or her as my personal cushion.
During the day I love to cuddle on the couch or nap in my bed at my foster mom’s feet. I am mostly house trained and love having the run of the house while she is home, which is most of the time. When the weather is warm enough and because she has a 6-foot privacy fence, my mom leaves the door open to the backyard so I can go in and out without bothering her. What I really love, though, is going on walks with my amazing foster mom. As soon as she looks ready for a walk I dance in circles at the door. She takes me on several walks a day which I love because it is so much fun exploring and smelling all the amazing things outdoors.
At night, I usually sleep in a crate as long as the door is left open. But my foster mom will tell you that I do not like being crated unless she is home and leaves the crate door open. When she is gone I am not happy in the crate. In fact, I really can’t stand it. And I will let everyone who is nearby know that!!
My foster mom sees that I am getting bored without another dog and although she takes me on walks and is really patient with my puppy behaviors, she thinks having another dog to play with and to be my buddy would really help drain my puppy energy and enthusiasm! She also says I learn very quickly and when I know someone really cares about me, I get excited about learning new things. My ears perk up when I hear my name. Because I’m such a curious little girl, I need to be monitored to keep out of trouble so when mom snaps her fingers to get my attention, I go and check in with her.
Since I’m still just a puppy, my new family needs to have a lot of time to spend with me. It wouldn’t be good for me to be at home most of the day without someone there. I also need a family who will be as affectionate with me as I will want to be with them. I am such a snuggler! And I really need at least one other dog to provide playtime and exercise so I don’t get bored and find things to do that my family probably wouldn’t appreciate. Since I’m a GSP, it would be much better for me to get lots and lots of exercise and intentional stimulation!
