Appa – ADOPTED

The most important things I need from my new family:
1) I need lots of play and adventure time. Exercise!
2) I need someone in the family who will consistently work with me on my commands.
3) I need a family who will make time for lots of cuddling and love.
4) I would love another playful dog (not a male) in my new family.
5) I need a secure fence so I can’t escape from my home.
I’m a new rescue boy, Appa, a 6-month-old German Shorthaired Pointer. I’m just a puppy so I
have lots of energy and a very playful temperament. I like running and playing with other dogs
so it would be great to have another dog with the same kind of energy in my new family.
My current owner wasn’t expecting me to need so much of his time and certainly not the kind
of action and adventure that is so characteristic of my breed.
I’ve learned my basic commands but my dad says that I will continue to need reminders and
practice. I use a no-pull harness now but I’m also going to need some training on a leash. My
dad doesn’t crate me so I’m loose in the house most of the time. And I get to sleep on a dog
bed and sometimes even my owner’s bed! I’m totally house broken so I let my dad know when I
need to go out by barking or by standing at the door.
I like being with other dogs, especially playing with them, but I may not be good with a cat in
my new home, especially a young one who wants to run from me. Prey! Since I’m young AND a
GSP, I have a lot of energy and need lots of exercise. I will love playing and running in the yard.
But my new family needs to remember that I shouldn’t run long distances yet, not until my
growth plates have closed. If they run me too far and for too long while I’m young, that could
be damaging to the development of the bones in my legs. My new family will need to limit my
exercise until I’m 12-18 months old to avoid undeveloped bone structure. I do love playing
fetch but as long as my family doesn’t overdo that with me, I will have a blast and grow into
strong, agile boy who will get to run and run.
Even though I love playing, I am very smart and a quick learner. In addition to playing with
other dogs, I love adventures. If you were to meet me, right away you would notice how
friendly and happy I am.
And if you were in the house with me, I would let you know how affectionate and cuddly I am. I
love being with people, but especially my people. And I as I mentioned earlier, I do love
sleeping in a human’s bed. I think I will make a wonderful dog for a family who will keep
training me, give me lots of off leash exercise (eventually), give me many opportunities to play
with other dogs and let me love and cuddle with them.
