Axel – ADOPTED!
Here are the most important things my new family needs to know about me:
1) I am a big puppy with lots and lots of exuberant energy.
2) I need to have another very active, playful dog as a family buddy.
3) I shouldn’t be in a family with small children. (I’m too rambunctious).
4) I am still maturing and will need a family who is patient and wants to
continue training me.
Keep reading to learn a lot more details about me!
Let me introduce myself. My name is Axel and I’m a Labrador Retriever/GSP mix and I am about one year old. I have been with my foster dad and mom for about a month and a half and have matured a lot. They laughed when I got to their home and they saw me running. They said my legs were going in all directions and I was kind of uncoordinated. Now, I can run really fast and in a straight line! Dad and Mom have worked with me jumping up on them but I love being with my people and have a hard time remembering not to do that. I think learning not to jump up will come with age. I’m house trained and am free in the house when my mom and dad are gone. I do sleep in a crate but I hate going in there. My dad says I would be fine not being in a crate but right now that’s a house rule. I am a counter cruiser so you have to make sure that you never leave food on the counter. They think I’m learning but also that I’m just kind of stubborn. I think it’s kind of a game for me to try to snatch stuff from the counter. I have no separation anxiety so I don’t chew up things in the house but I do chew things outside when I’m bored, mostly sticks.
Mom and Dad think I have some potential for hunting and that I could be trained to hunt but I would also be perfectly content just being your best buddy. Right now I do show some prey drive but I get bored just standing there because I’d rather be playing. One of my best GSP traits is that I love all people and dogs. I sure want to find my forever home but my new family really needs to have another dog for me to play with. Being the dominant dog would be my preference but I do back off when other dogs tell me to. Since I am still so young and rambunctious, I could knock down little kids or someone over who isn’t steady on his or her feet with my enthusiasm (totally unintentional). So I shouldn’t be with a family who has children under 6 or 7 years old. I should be fine with kids older than that, though.
I am still 100% puppy so my very favorite activity is to play . . . and play some more. I’ve heard my mom and dad say that I will be such a great dog as I mature. So if my new family understands that I’m still a big pup who will continue to need training and if they will be patient and willing to work with me through my rambunctious puppy stage, my future with them will be amazing!!!
