Buddy – ADOPTED!
Most important for me in my new home/family
1. Another very playful dog
2. Wide open spaces to run and run, lots of exercise
3, Consistent training on an e-collar, especially if you have a fence in a large yard
4. Lots of time with my family, especially with children, playing and cuddling
5. Possible playtime in water; I would love that!
There are a lot more details below. Please keep reading if you want more information about me.
I’m not a typical German Shorthaired Pointer because I’m mostly black and I also probably have some Lab in my genes. Many people have told me that’s a really great combination. But let me tell you: I act just like a GSP. I have tons of energy and my perfect day would be to play, to run, to check out prey and, at the end of the day, to snuggle. I am such a happy, exuberant boy, loving the pups I am living with, the adventures we have, and my foster mom, who loves me right back.
I’m just over 1 year old so, of course, I act like a puppy. I’m pretty good with my basic commands but my foster mom says that because I am really smart, I catch onto training really fast and should do very well with more training. She has taken me to the dog park and I love that exercise and time with other dogs, too. She has also let me wear an e-collar (a training collar) and says I do a really good job responding to it. I’m also crate trained and because I’m still a chewing puppy, that’s where I stay when my foster mom is at work. But at night I get to sleep on her bed with the other dogs and I love that!
Anyone wanting to be my new family should know that I really want to have another young dog to play with. I have a lot of energy and a dog buddy will help drain some of that energy. Right now, my 1-year-old foster girlfriend and I play almost non-stop most of the day. We do get a short nap but then we’re at it again! Besides, I will not do well being at home by myself. In addition, both my foster mom and a trainer I have worked with say that I really need more than a residential back yard with a 6-foot privacy fence because I need to run and run. I have jumped a 6-foot privacy fence several times, especially if it has horizontal supports on it, wanting to know what’s on the other side. An owner who would give me consistent training on an e-collar to stay away from the fence might be enough to keep me in. But wide-open spaces would be the best so I wouldn’t have to wonder what’s on the other side of a fence. My trainer has also said I love the water! And playing fetch. As I said before, because I’m a puppy I have enormous energy and I really need to have plenty of opportunities every day to use it all up by playing hard, by running off leash with an e-collar, and by training. I actually like training and my trainer said I am really smart so I learn quickly.
Even though I‘m pretty energetic, I love being and playing with children but I may be too rambunctious for really little toddlers. I wouldn’t want to accidentally knock down a small child. And it’s possible that I may not be good with cats, either. My new owner really should have experience with GSPs, knowing that our breed, especially a puppy like me, needs a lot of time for exercise, training and bonding. Our energy can be kind of demanding at times so someone with enough time and gentle patience is important for me.
My new family will be happy to know what a sweet boy I am. I love snuggling and giving kisses; in fact, I might wake up my owner in the morning with my kisses as I do for my foster mom! Even though I have a ton of energy, I still want to be with my people getting lots of attention and love and, of course, giving plenty of love back.
