CAKI – Adopted
I’m CAKI, a 6-8-year-old male GSP. I will be coming into the rescue in just a few days so I need to tell you all about me so the rescue can help me find a new family.
Most important things to know about me:
1) I absolutely cannot live with cats.
2) So, I have a strong prey drive.
3) I am crate-trained but not happy in a crate. I will bark and
cry but eventually settle down.
4) I need lots of exercise (more than chasing a ball) because I
have lots of energy!
5) I’m very sweet and love my people. I’m pretty Velcro.
6) I love chasing after a ball and I will know if you try to fake me
out!
Please keep reading for more details about me.
I was a stray without a known family so a shelter picked me up and took me in to be safe. They put me in a foster family which soon had to take me back to the shelter because the family had cats and there was no way I was going to leave them alone. Even though I couldn’t stay in my foster’s home for very long (the cats!), my foster mom really liked me and has given the rescue lots of information.
Clearly, I have a high prey drive which is why I couldn’t live with the cats. The shelter recommended to the foster that I be separated from her own 3 dogs for a week or two just to let them adjust to another dog in the house. They would bark like crazy at me through the window while I was outside. The foster mom said I paid no attention to them but she does think I would be fine with larger dogs (my size). Not so much with little dogs because they could look like prey to me. I am crate trained but I am not a fan. I wanted to be with my foster mom so when I was crated, I did bark and cry for a while. Mostly, I was loose in her house unless her own dogs with her and then I was in a crate which is also where I slept at night. She also assumes I am house-trained because I am microchipped (I had a previous owner) and never had accidents inside at her house.
A very important thing to know about me is that I am very energetic and really need to get lots of off-leash exercise. I loved chasing a ball and taking it back to my foster mom. She said I am very smart because when she tried to trick me by hiding it, I knew what she was up to! I know I would love getting frequent running exercise, especially with my person right there beside me. If you are reading this and are a GSP owner, you know that means I am a Velcro dog. My foster mom told the rescue that I am a very sweet boy. I absolutely love my person and want to be with her or him as much as possible. I guess that makes me a pretty typical GSP, right? I am so looking forward to my new family and home and wondering if it might be you?
