Chewy – Adopted
Most important things for my new family to know about me:
Hi, there! I’m Chewbacca, or Chewy, and I want to introduce myself. I am an easy-going, 6- month-old GSP. I came into the rescue because the house where my owner and I lived had a terrible fire so we no longer have a home. My mom was pretty devasted but knew she needed to find a home for me as soon as possible. I’m in a foster home now but ready to have my very own home again, hopefully real soon!
My foster mom says I need to have some further training but I have learned “sit” and am almost 100% house trained. Yay! And I am also crate trained though I really don’t want to be in one for more than 3 or 4 hours. My mom and dad leave me out of the crate for 1.5 – 3 hours at a time and I mostly just sleep on the couch but I do have other dogs with me and that really helps me be OK when they are gone. But you would want to make sure that the trash is in a safe place! Mom says as long as I have a companion pup, I should be OK out of the crate for a few hours. I
At night I sleep in a crate in my foster mom and dad’s room. I am almost completely house trained but once in a while I need to go out for a potty break. But I need to do this less and less frequently so I should be able to sleep through the night very soon.
I currently am living with two other dogs, a GSP and a young GWP who is just a little older than I am. We love playing together. We romp around the house a lot but I’m content just hanging out chewing a bone on the couch or dog bed, too. However, we especially love running and playing together outside. If he is in a different part of the dog park we go to, I will jump over a 4 ft. fence to get to him so we can start playing again. I just love playing with any dog, large and small, young and senior. I am not in any way aggressive but not really submissive with other dog either, just kind of neutral. I might be a pushover if challenged, but I’m not scared so I won’t stand down to other dogs when meeting them.
Mom thinks I am a very smart pup and need a new family who will spend time continuing to train me. One of the things I do still need some help with is walking on a leash. I just want some more dedicated time to work on this. I am, however, great off leash with an e-collar. I respond really quickly, just with a tone. My foster mom thinks that my prey drive is pretty strong because I am very interested in rabbits! But I love my toys, too, and love playing fetch. I will also greet you with a toy in my mouth when you come home or even if you’ve just come downstairs in the house.
Obviously, I love my people and want to please them. In fact, I really love all people.
Here is what my mom says about me: Chewy “is such a sweet boy. The joy on his face when you say his name. He loves people, even strangers.”
