Chip – Adopted!
Hi! My name is Chip (actually, Cooper’s Chocolate Chip) and I’m a purebred GSP, almost 3-years-old. I live with my mom and dad and I love my home but my mom says they just don’t have the energy to give me the kind of exercise that I really need every day so they think it would best for me to find an active family who has lots of time to run me and play with me.
I know all my basic commands – sit, stay, come, down and off – and I am leash trained using a Gentle Leader. And, of course, I am house-trained. But because I get to have the run of my house, I am not crate trained. I love my mom and dad and I’m good with other adults, too, but I am not fond of small children. Although I like going for rides in the car, I do feel protective and sometime growl and bark at others when I’m in the car. Sometimes I get to go to doggy day care, which I really like, and I get along well with those dog friends. And I like going to dog parks, too. I’ve never been around cats so I honestly don’t know how I would be with them.
During the day, I spend a lot of time going in and out of the house because we have a doggie door. I love playing with my toys, especially toy ducks, and of course, balls! When my mom and dad are gone during the day, which isn’t very often at all, I hang out where I want to because I’m not crated. But my mom and dad are home most of the time and I love getting lots of attention from them. That’s pretty important to me. At night I sleep in the bedroom or on a recliner.
My mom says I am such a good pet but she realizes I really need to be with a family who can give me the exercise I need. But she also wants to be sure that they will give me lots of love and attention, too. My new family should not have young children and it would be good if they were around for at least part of the day. Like most GSPs, I know I wouldn’t be happy all by myself during the day.
