Coco -Adopted
Most important things for my new family to know about me:
1) I need daily off-leash exercise.
2) I should not live with a cat or small rodents. I’m too prey driven.
3) I’m very affectionate and calm around people, and I love my foster fur-siblings (just not small,
young puppies)
4) I love snuggling and sleeping with someone in my family.
5) I need a 6-foot fence or wall to keep me safe.
6) I need recall training.

I am COCO a 4.5-year-old female GSP mix. I was rescued from a shelter by my family several months ago but my dad says they are not the right home for me since they have a cat and a guinea pig. We all have to be separated because I have such a terrific hunting instinct. My foster dad says it is quite impressive actually but just not suitable for their situation with a pet cat and guinea pig in the mix. I am crate trained but lately I have stayed in one of the bedrooms during the day to keep me away from the cat. And at night, I sleep in bed with my dad’s son and 2 other dogs. I’m a pretty affectionate little girl so getting to sleep with him on his bed is something I love! Not having to be in a crate is a much better life for me. So, when the cat is put away in her den, I am very calm in the house.
I am a really friendly girl with the people in my family. In fact, I love being with them and love their attention. I am friendly with anyone that comes into my house, even a toddler. I have learned to open my heart to the humans in my life and I get so much joy out of learning about love in my family. But that doesn’t include the cat. No . . . I just want to chase her and catch her.
I love being outdoors, especially when my people are with me, and am very playful. We have a 6-foot wall which is good because without a fence, I would probably bolt. I especially like adventures and would love a lot more opportunities to be outside running and hiking. And I also love chasing after birds and even insects. If it flies, I want to chase it! My dad and his son say I have a lot of energy so I need vigorous exercise every day. If you want to take me on a neighborhood walk, I will need some good training on a leash with a gentle leader which I use now. Walks are OK, I suppose, but I really want to be able to get off-leash exercise so I will need some training on recall. Right now, I usually come back when called but if I’m on a bird or a rabbit, I’m just too distracted. I do need recall training.
I would love to be part of a family that has lots of time for me because I am very loving and I just want to please my people. My dad feels that any small puppy siblings would be too much frantic energy in my face, but otherwise I love being around my more mature fur-siblings. It might be great to have someone who works from home or who maybe only works part time, but I currently do fine with occasionally being on my own for 6 hours. I get so excited when dad comes home from work that he calls me “Wiggles” because I wag my tail so hard in excitement, that my whole body is wiggly. In fact, I’m so happy every day that my tail almost never stops moving! My dad says I really need a family who will give me lots of affection but also give me the daily exercise that I crave, like being able to be outside running in fields or on trails. That’s what we GSPs do best! But, of course, I know that does mean that I need more recall training.
