Copper – Adopted
Most important things I need in a new family:
1) I need a family that will provide basic training such as sit, stay, come
2) I need a family that has another dog for me to play with and keep me company.
3) I need a family that will play with me and give me a lot of attention every day.
4) I need a family that has a containment system (fence/invisible fence) that will keep me home.
I’m Copper, a 13-month-old purebred male GSP. My owners surrendered me because they just moved to Colorado and don’t have housing with a yard.
I currently weigh about 45-50 lbs., but I am a bit underweight. My foster mom expects that I will be somewhere in the 60 to 65 lb. range when I fill out and am full grown.
I get along great with all my new foster family’s three male GSPs (all rescues, ages 2, 8 and 11). I really like playing with 2 year-old, Boomer, a pocket pointer recently rescued from Texas! He is a lot of fun!
My foster family has just started training me on their 5 acres of invisible dog fence. We expect in about 5 days, I will be fully trained and will be running on the 5 acres with my 3 new GSP friends. My foster family is also working with me on basic commands like heel, here and whoa commands with a 20-foot lead, using a half-hitch and an e-collar. They use the e-collar for assistance in training me as needed. So far, they have only “beeped” me as I respond well to their commands. They think I am really smart and that I am a people-pleaser!
I go willingly into my crate, especially when my foster parents give me a treat! I lay down and rest quietly, once in my crate, especially if my new GSP friend, Boomer is in the crate across from me. I also travel in the crate in a car well…. No crying or whimpering… I just lay down and enjoy the car ride.
I have indicated that I like “BIRDS” when walking around on the 5 acres so I could end up being a hunter. I am also a confident dog, who once I am in a new situation for a few minutes, my tail is up and wagging like crazy!
My foster parents think I am potty trained and haven’t had any accidents in the house. However, while they are evaluating me, I wear a belly band and leave it alone.
