Cosby – Adopted!

I’m Cosby and, as you can see, I’m a purebred, mostly liver, male GSP. And you can probably also tell that I’m quite handsome! At least that’s what people say when they meet me. I’m three-years-old and have been with my family since I was a puppy.
One of the things you’ll notice about me is that I’m a very happy pup. I love being with my family and other people, too. I know my basic commands like sit, come and down and I don’t chew on stuff. And even though I’m crate-trained, when my mom and dad are gone I am loose in the house. I’m not very good walking on a leash but I am pretty good on a Gentle Leader. Because I have a high prey drive, I also need to have a yard with a tall privacy fence.
I’m very outgoing with other dogs, not at all aggressive. In fact, I’ve been known to help timid dogs come out of their shells, partly because I love to play. My dad says I’m good at dissolving tense situations with aggressive dogs because I let their aggression towards me roll right off my back. When a dog like that growls and snaps at me I just get this look on my face like, “Whatever, man…you’re not going to kill my buzz.” Dad says I’m really good in a dog park/social setting and if there is an aggressive dog, I’ll just steer clear of that pup. And how about cats? I don’t think so. I’m too strong and, as a GSP, I do have a prey drive. Cats probably wouldn’t be safe with me.
What do I love doing more than almost anything? Running off-leash. Listen to my dad: “When Cosby is allowed to run off-leash in an open field or in the woods, he instantly becomes the most joyful creature on the planet. There is no way to overstate that. It is pure bliss for him, and for me as well to watch him enjoy himself/life that much.” Oh, boy, do I love to run and I like catching a Frisbee, as well!
My family is really wonderful but their lives have totally changed since they adopted me. They have two very small children now and will be moving to a country in Central America and then living in a travel trailer and eventually an apartment. They know that these situations wouldn’t be good for me so they want to find me a home that can provide what GSPs need.
I am a deeply loyal and affectionate boy so in my ideal home my people will want to spend a lot of time playing and snuggling with me. They will also realize that because I’m a young, playful dog I would like to have another playful dog in my new family. I love being around other pups so being an only dog would not be a happy situation for me. Since I am also a very strong dog, it would be best not to be with very young children. I’m just too powerful for small kids. And because I have the usual high GSP energy level, my new family will need to make time every day to give me lots of the off leash exercise in fields or on trails (wearing an e-collar) that I crave and need.
