Dakota – ADOPTED!
Most important things for my new family to know about me:
1) I need a family that gives me the off-leash exercise that I want and need.
2) I love playing with other energetic dogs.
3) I love spending a lot of time with my family and having cuddle time with them.
4) I need a big yard with a secure privacy fence.
5) I am well trained and very well behaved.
In Dakota’s foster home there are two other Pointers and property to run on and he is in
his element. We have a dog door, and after some work on mastering it and the
separation anxiety, we now leave him out when we leave. He spends much of the time
we are away hunting and playing outside. He loves being outside and will hunt anything
that moves, every hour or so he will come in and drink a whole bowl of water and then
run right back outside. Even more than hunting by himself, he loves it when one of our
female Pointers will go out with him too. When they aren’t hunting, they are playing tug-
a-war or even just chasing each other.
While Dakota is a born hunter, it is even more important that he has a LOT of human
interaction. When we leave him for any period, he is uncontrollably happy when we get
back home. He does circles, lays his mouth on you to show you his love, and will do a
dance to get you to give him a treat. If we are resting on the coach and have one of the
girls next to us, he wants to be the middle of attention and will climb up on our laps. He
loves his owners and wants to show you.
At night we still crate him and with all the training he has all you must do is say the word
“CRATE” and he is in, waiting for the door to be closed. After about seven hours he is
usually ready to get out and check out the property and will let you know by quietly
talking.
Out of the many fosters we have had he is probably the most trained and would be at
least a tie for most affectionate GSP we have ever had.
If you have the right environment, namely room to run outside, and other active dogs,
and are willing to give him all the love he demands, he could be your perfect dog.
