Dash
Hello, my name is Dash —
I am a very handsome 5-year–old GSP with a shiny brown coat, and a bright white chest. I am about 65lbs now, and strong. As my namesake Dash says — I can run fast for a long time, but I don’t run too far away and am pretty good about coming back when called. I am learning and am being trained on an e-collar. I am doing very well!
I love all people, and, so far, all dogs. I have a lot of energy, but I also want to cuddle on the couch next to you and be by your side all the time. I love to jump into the car and go on car rides everywhere with you. Even when you do not want me to come!😊 And I especially like to go camping when I get to run around off leash with my dog pals. I am really pretty good about sticking around, especially with an e-collar. I live with 2 other older female GSP’s to pal around with and to learn from, so that is fun. And we get along fine. We play a little, but mostly we all do our own thing, but that’s because they are older, and I just want to do my own sniffing and chasing around the yard. I do like to chase balls and sticks, but I’ll get bored with that after about 10 minutes and then I’m likely to find a good scent to follow.
Because I am such a busy boy, and like to run, and like to explore my yard, and like to follow my person everywhere, I also have a ferocious appetite. Mealtime is very important to me because I love, love, love, to eat. I was pretty skinny when I got to CO but I have filled out and am looking pretty handsome now!
When my foster mom is not at home, my foster sisters and I have full run of the house, with access to a back yard through a doggie door, and I do great with that kind of freedom! I must admit I have counter surfed, but I am getting better about that. I also have been cratetrained, but I do not really need to be in there any longer. I am so good in the house when we are on our own. Although I did spend some time in a crate in my former home, I really don’t want to go back to that confinement.
I sleep well at night. Initially in my current foster home, I did sleep in a dog crate, and then on a dog bed in my foster mom‘s room, and now sometimes on my foster mom’s bed. I am trying to learn only to jump on her bed when she invites me, but sometimes I just get too excited and can’t help myself. Then I’m asked to get “off” but I sometimes have a difficult time obeying that command.
I have so much energy right now, and if you think GSP’s have energy, take it up another notch or two. I do get to live in a big yard, go on off leash hikes, and go camping, but I would really love even more exercise like longer and more off leash hikes. I do need a LOT of exercise. I have a pretty good prey drive (I’m way too interested in my foster mom’s chickens) so I would most likely not be good in a home with cats. But I do think I would be OK with children, especially those that are older than toddlers. I just wouldn’t want to knock over a child with my exuberance and energy.
I would love to find a wonderful forever home with someone who will love me and cuddle with me, exercise with me, take me lots of places, and someone who will continue to train me to be a good boy. One of my main goals is in life is to please you, almost to the point of being in your face, and at your feet, and following and going wherever you might be. Yup, they call GSPs Velcro dogs. And I am one of those pups!
I have A LOT of energy, so it is important that my new home has a big yard with a secure, tall fence and has a lot of time to spend with me. I might be OK for hunting (I might have done some hunting in my former home) but I also want to be a house dog. And of course, a home with another dog or dogs would be ideal so I have at least onebuddy to hang out with. I don’t think I would be very happy as an only dog.
