Djingo (DJ) – ADOPTED!
I’m Djingo but everyone calls me DJ. I’m a young German Wirehaired Pointer around 2 years old and I really love attention! I especially enjoy having my head scratched, and when I’m in a vehicle, I like to rest my head near my foster mom or dad, either on the armrest, their arms, or on a shoulder. I am generally a quiet dog until I start playing with other dogs. Then I can bark and bark! And I love to play in the kiddie pool. Even more than play in it, I love to jump over it, especially if another dog is currently in it. I like to play with and chew on toys and am great at destroying them! I’m good at fetch, too! Plenty of toys inside and out is a good idea for me. I’m really still a pup so I need lots of playtime before I settle in at the end of the day.
I get along great with the family’s 2-year old German Shepherd as well as with a male GSP who is 5-6 years old. I haven’t shown any aggression towards people or dogs. I’m pretty sure I will go after small animals, though, because I like to stalk the chickens (it’s a good thing that a fence keeps them separated from me). Living in a family that has a cat would not be a good idea, either. Although my prey drive seems pretty strong, I would probably not be good at hunting since I’m afraid of fireworks, gunshots, thunder, and other loud noises. I seek human “protection” from my foster mom or dad when I hear things like that.
My recall is good but my foster mom and dad haven’t risked having me off leash in the driveway, yet. If the garage door is open, I haven’t made any attempts to make a break for it. I am not kennel trained yet but I am getting better using a crate. I usually whine and howl because I don’t want to be separated from my people but I am getting better about being without them. I’m house trained but you’ll probably want to keep an eye on me at first because I did make a couple of mistakes inside in the first couple of days I was with my foster mom and dad. They don’t really know how I would ask to go outside because they let their dogs out every two-three hours, or sooner should one ask to be let out. But I know how to use a doggy door to get into the garage when left in the backyard. I know how to sit, come, drop-it, and leave-it but I could use more work on stay, down/lay, and kennel. I walk well on a leash but I do need a “heel” occasionally. My foster dad says I am not a puller. So far I haven’t made any attempts to jump up on the furniture.
I think the right family for me would be one that had a young active dog around my age. I might be OK as an only dog as long as I wasn’t alone for much of the day. My new family also needs to be very active and love spending time outdoors playing and even hiking. Finally, I love my people so I’d like a family who will give me lots of attention and affection.
Here’s a quick look at me. I’m a boy who
1) Loves attention.
2) Loves toys.
3) Love to fetch.
4) Is afraid of fireworks gunshots, thunder.
5) Is not kennel trained, but is slowly learning to be okay with a crate.
6) Is house trained (but watch the first few days).
7) Is good with other dogs. Best with dogs of similar age or that play in a rambunctious GSP/GWP style.
8) Is good on a leash.
9) Has good recall but not in a large open area, yet.
10) Is a fairly calm dog for his age but still requires very active exercise and play time.
