Dozer – ADOPTED!
Hi! I’m Dozer, a 4 ½ year old GSP mix. I may be small in stature (40 lbs) but I am large in love for everyone, humans, dogs, kids and cats!
Here are the most important things to know about me.
1. I absolutely need a home with another dog buddy. Two would be even better. I need a playmate and crave the structure that comes with being part of an established household.
2. If you are looking for a hunting dog, that is not me. Loud noises – and even some small ones – can really scare me. I will however make a great house pet, running and playing with your family and will reward you with a boatload of cuddling.
3. I should not be crated with the door closed and left by myself. I grew up as an outdoor dog and confinement scares me and I can harm myself. If left loose in the house with my doggie sibs, I am not destructive at all, and just sleep contentedly on my bed.
4. I need a home with a secure fence or Invisible Fence. I am very well trained to Invisible Fence especially and take my cues from my foster sibs about the boundaries of our property. I have never left the yard.
So, some more about me. I was raised as an outdoor dog with no doggie siblings. I was bored and lonely, so I chased my neighbor’s cattle. He did not like this so I came to rescue from KS to live a different life. I had to adapt to living in a house, which was strange at first, but now I would not trade it for anything.
Because I grew up without siblings, I get lonely if I don’t have a doggie buddy to play with. My foster home has three GSPs, with two about my age. They have taught me how to be a good pack member, and to play and romp with them. I was unsure at first and had not played with toys before but they showed me the ropes and I now join in eagerly and initiate play too. I need this kind of stimulation in my life, as I missed it for so long. Siblings about my age would be ideal.
I’m not good hunting material. My KS neighbor used to shoot a gun in the air to scare me away from his cows, so loud noises scare me. Small ones also make me a bit jumpy but foster mama thinks I will get over this. I haven’t shown much hunting instinct at my foster home either, so squirrels (and cats) are safe with me.
My foster mama is around a lot, and I like that because she has time for me. I knew “sit” but she has trained me to recall/come to my name, to “sit/stay” when my sibs are eating or getting treats, and to move“off” if I climb on you or someplace else I should not be. I also know “phui” which is her all purpose term for “stop that.” I’ve walked on leash using a Gentle Leader/Halti. I am housetrained, though don’t necessarily let you know when I need to go out; I just follow my siblings. I’ve never had an accident indoors.
My favorite things to do are playing with my furry siblings, running with my humans, and cuddling. I love belly rubs! I am a small dog with a big heart and would love to share it with you.
