Dozer (Must Be Adopted With Ahnu) – ADOPTED!
Hi! I’m Dozer, a 5 ½ year old GSP mix but I look exactly like a purebred GSP. I may be small in stature (40 lbs) but I am large in love for everyone: humans, dogs, kids and even cats!
I was raised as an outdoor dog with no doggie siblings. I was bored and lonely, so I chased my neighbor’s cattle. He did not like this so I came to rescue from KS to live a different life. I had to adapt to living in a house, which was strange at first, but now I would not trade it for anything.
My mama was around a lot, and I liked that because she had time for me. I already knew “sit” but she trained me to recall/come to my name, to “sit/stay” when my sibs are eating or getting treats, and to move“off” if I climb on you or am someplace I should not be. I also know “phui” which is her all purpose term for “stop that.” I’ve walked on leash using a Gentle Leader/Halti. I am housetrained, though don’t necessarily let you know when I need to go out; I just follow my siblings through the doggie door. I’ve never had an accident indoors. I am not destructive in the house unless I am left completely by myself but that doesn’t happen because Ahnu, Sophie and the other dogs or my mama or Foster Mom are there. So when I’m loose in the house I just snuggle up on a couch or doggie bed.
Because I grew up without dog siblings, I get lonely if I don’t have a doggie buddy to play with. My home in Colorado had three other GSPs, two of them about my age. My mama and they taught me how to be a good pack member, and to play and romp with them. I was unsure at first and had not played with toys before but Ahnu became my very best friend and showed me the ropes so now I love playing with other dogs and toys and like initiating play, too.
But life has been rough for us lately. My mama died very suddenly and that has been very tough on all of us. I have adapted to my new foster situation in the past couple of weeks especially because the three of us (all GSPs) were able to stay together in one foster home. I’m so happy to have my best buddy Ahnu with me but I’m happy to be with the other dogs in our foster home, too. And I am a real cuddle bug, loving to lie on the couch with my foster Mom and snuggling in close. Bedtime is the best because we all snuggle together.
Even though I’m a GSP, I’m not good hunting material. My KS neighbor used to shoot a gun in the air to scare me away from his cows, so loud noises scare me. Little critters also make me a bit jumpy but my mama was pretty sure I would get over that. I haven’t shown much hunting instinct at my current foster home either, so squirrels (and cats) are safe with me. I do need a home with a secure fence or Invisible Fence, though. I was very well trained to Invisible Fence, especially, and took my cues from my dog buddies about the boundaries of our property. I never left the yard.
My favorite things to do are playing with Ahnu and other dogs, running with my humans, and cuddling. And I love belly rubs! I am a small dog with a big heart and would love to share it with you.
NOTE: Ahnu and I need to be adopted together.
