Ellie – ADOPTED!
Most important things for me in my new home:
1) Lots of love and affection
2) Plenty of indoor time with my family and another family dog
3) Lots of time to run and play outside
Thank you for wanting to read more about me! I’m Ellie, a 4-year-old Pointer mix (maybe with a lab or maybe even with a Catahoula!) and everyone says I’m pretty adorable. I came to the rescue from Laredo, TX after staying for a short time with a foster mom there. I’ve been in a great foster home here in the Denver area, living with a young Vizsla male. We have had a lot of fun playing together and my foster mom and dad decided to adopt me. But very recently, they have learned that they need to help a relative and take in two terriers so they feel they just can’t keep me now.
I’m very affectionate and really like it when people want to pet me. This is a pretty significant for me because I was picked up as a stray on the streets and might not have been very trusting. But I really like people! Even though I did have one accident in 3 weeks at my foster home, I‘m house broken now. I’m also crate-trained and go into my crate when my foster mom and dad will be gone for awhile, as long as I have a chew toy and some hard toys to chew on. I also walk well on a leash. My foster mom says I’m a very smart girl and am continuing to learn some basic commands. I do have a tendency to steal toys and sometimes food from my Vizsla companion so it would probably be good for me to be fed separately from another family dog for a while so I’m not tempted to steal from him or her. That’s probably from fending for myself in TX but I think I just need to gain some trust that I’ll be just fine and will get everything I need.
I’m good in the house and really likes just lying around with my family and my Vizsla buddy sometimes. I sleep pretty much where I want to in my foster parents’ bedroom and sometimes will lie in bed with them. Typically, though, I like to sleep on the floor on a doggie bed. But I also like long walks, running and hiking. In fact, my foster mom thinks I have the potential to be a great hiking and running companion. I’ve done many 4-5 mile runs before getting tired but I’ve also been on a 6 mile run! I’m not sure I am ready for dog park runs, though, because sometimes I’m a little aggressive with some of the dogs I’ve met there but I sure do love to run when there aren’t a lot of other dogs around. I especially like running and playing in my own yard as long as it is large and safe. When playing with my Vizsla housemate I sometime like to nip at his legs when chasing him but am obedient when my mom or dad says “No!”
