Ellie – ADOPTED!
I’m Ellie (my mom calls me Ellie Ann) and I’m coming to Colorado to find my very own new
home. We’ve had a death in our family and my mom is going to be gone from home most of the
day which means she won’t have time to give me the exercise I want and need. I have been well
trained on basic commands, including being house broken. I am not crate trained because my
behavior is so good in the house so I really don’t need a crate. At night I sleep on my own bed
right next to my mom’s bed. She always covers me with blankets because I get cold at night; in
fact, if I wake up because the covers have come off, she will cover me up again. She is
awesome!
My mom knows how important it is for her to give me lots and lots of exercise because I am so such a
high energy girl so she takes me out to the forest, field or even the desert, of leash, so I can run and run.
Of course, there are lots of rabbits, squirrels, and birds so I’m kept pretty busy. Even though I know all
my basic commands, I’m also trained on an training-collar so I’m under control and safe. At home, I need a very secure privacy fence at least 5 ft hight. When I’m in the house,
I love playing with my chew toys and my bone but I really don’t want to offer them to you! When I get a
new chew toy (no), I chew on it for hours and hours. But my mom says I shouldn’t have pigs’ ears,
rawhide or stuffed toys – only toys for extreme chewers.
I am an only dog in my current home and that’s fine with me as long as I’m not home by myself
for very long periods of time. I’m OK with other dogs as long as they are males and am
submissive when I first meet new dogs. But as long as someone is around for much of the day
and in the evening, I should be fine as an only dog. But no cats because, obviously, I’m quite
prey driven. Most important for me is to be with my person or people. I’m extremely
affectionate and love, love, love to snuggle and cuddle. I’m also very vocal, wanting to let my
mom know that I want to go outside (and I stare at my training-collar sitting on the counter!) or that it
is time for me to eat! My mom says I try to communicate with her all the time. Maybe that’s
because I am very smart.
Of course, my momma wants me to have a really wonderful new family and home. She wants
them to know that I am a very friendly and happy girl. I may be a little shy when I first meet
people and may bark at strangers but that doesn’t last very long. My new family needs to know
that I absolutely love adventures and need to have opportunities to run and run off-leash
almost every day. I also need a family who loves to show a lot of affection to their dog. If you
have a busy work life and don’t really have a lot of time to spend with me, either taking me on
outdoor running adventures or snuggling during quiet times, I’m probably not the right GSP for
you. But if you are around a lot and want to spend lots of time with me walking in the woods or
running through fields, you might want to contact the rescue about adopting me!
