Gunner – ADOPTED!
I’m Gunner, a 10 month old purebred GSP and I’ll bet you’re reading about me because I’m a puppy and I’m awfully cute. But keep in mind that because I’m a GSP PUPPY I am pretty much a wild child! Anyone who adopts a GSP my age needs to have a lot of time and a lot of patience! Just ask my owners who need to relinquish me because they just don’t have the time for me that they know I need.
I am a crate-trained puppy and mostly housebroken so I only have accidents when I’m left inside for too long. I know a few basic commands – Place (stay) and Out, if I need to drop something in my mouth. I need work on Come, Down, Off and Sit. I can walk on a leash but I do some pulling if I see something I need to check out. I’m a very happy boy and like to be with other dogs. But if I’m playing fetch or am doing something else fun with my owner, I don’t pay a lot of attention to other dogs. Cats? It appears that I’m OK with them but I may want to play with them and, hopefully, I wouldn’t be too rough. And I love being with people, too but really I shouldn’t be with infants or children under the age of 7 or 8, though. I am, after all, a puppy and my energy level is just too great for young children. I’m not aggressive but I’m just too rambunctious and could easily knock a young child over. Also, young kids don’t understand the need to give really active dogs who have a lot of energy their space and may forget any rules that parents put in place regarding a dog.
I am a really playful puppy who loves people, other dogs and adventure and my mom says I am affectionate and gentle as well.
I do have some puppy habits that my new family will need to help me with. I still jump up and I bark when excited. And if things that I’m really interested in are left unattended, I’ll probably want to chew and try to destroy them.
I’m hoping for my new family soon, people who will spend the time to continue training me so I can be a really great family member. I’ve been spending an awful lot of time in my crate, day and night, so my new owners also need to be able to commit to daily off-leash running exercise, using an e-collar that I’ve had some training on.
