Gunner – ADOPTED!
Update for Gunner – 09-26-2021
Gunner had an FHO surgery on his left hip on 8-17-2021. He’s currently getting physical therapy and has shown real progress in the last couple of weeks. He still limps a bit occasionally but he walks well, probably because he isn’t in so much pain since surgery.
Gunner will be so happy as a family dog, a best buddy for another dog and his human family members. He probably will not have the endurance to be a serious hunter.
• He also loves his walks on a leash with lots of snooping and adventuring. He has a strong prey drive. He will catch rabbits but if you want him to release them, he will do so. He may have been trained as a hunter.
• When he has met a cat on leash, he ignores it. He would need to be tested with other cats, especially off leash, to confirm his compatibility in co-existing with a cat.
• Gunner loves running through the house and loves playing with other dogs.
• He will need more training to sit and stay when at an outdoor restaurant. He also needs work on recall when he’s at the dog park. As noted earlier, he loves dogs!
• Gunner loves to ride in the car. He is fine with horses and (oh my!) is even good when riding on an elevator!
• He is very well behaved when out in public. He just loves people.
• Gunner is a fairly mellow dog. He is very affectionate, loving to snuggle with his people.
He also loves to have his nose rubbed. His fosters keep saying that he is just the sweetest boy.
I am Gunner from TX and I’m a pure bred GSP. I’m approximately 2 years old and I am “such a good boy,” according to my Colorado foster mom and dad and I‘m very sweet, too. I am not a rowdy, super energetic GSP so I’m very easy to have in the house. My foster mom says I am “handsome and a very gentle dog” and “a big snuggler!”
The rescue was pretty excited to take me because I am going to need some vet care and they wanted to make sure I got the very best care possible. While I was in TX, the rescue woman who took me from a shelter learned through x-rays that I had probably been hit by a car. A break in one of my tibia had been repaired and that healed well. But an orthopedic vet in Colorado says I will need surgery on my hip so I am not in so much pain. I walk a little funny and the surgery should definitely help me move more easily. So I have an appointment to determine which kind of surgery would be most successful for me. I’m pretty anxious to find out what will help me the most. If you have questions about me, especially about adopting me (Colorado applicants only, please) just email or text the rescue at milehighgsp@gmail.com or text at 720-373-7274 (please leave your name and number).
