Hank

Most Important things for a new family/owner to know about me:
Hey, everyone, I’m HANK, an 8-year-old German Wirehaired Pointer. I am looking for a family who can provide me all the necessary exercise time I deserve. Since my move from Iowa to Colorado, I have lost my acreage and am not able to run, swim or hunt as often as I would like. Unfortunately, my current familyrecently gave me a canine brother whom I don’t getalong with. He wants constant attention, which he shows by annoying me and being very Alpha. He also doesn’t listen to me when I tell him to back away, which makes me hide. In addition, my family is muchbusier now with their kids’ active lives so they really don’t have as much time to get me out exploring.
I am crate-trained as well as hunt-trained and house broken, when someone is at home. Although the crate gives me anxiety, I can be there up to a few hours as needed.
I have lots of energy, of course, because I am a pointer and I love to go for off-leash runs but I’m pretty calmindoors, especially after a run. I need a big yard with a 6-ft privacy fence so I can be outside exploring, playing fetch and running around. It’s much better for my energy level to be able to go on frequent off leash runs or hikes and if you can take me to a lake or reservoir, I LOVE to swim! I’m not an aggressive boy so I’m good with most other dogs, especially females. My family sometimes takes me to dog parks and I get along fine with all the dogs because I’m prettysubmissive . . . unless another dog is aggressive. I do communicate my boundary to them and will run away while doing it. I’m good with the other dogs when I’m taken to a dog sitter who has other dogs.
I do get anxious at home alone and will need someone who can be my support human. At night, though, I get to sleep in bed with their 12-year-old son and I sure like that! According to my mom, when someone is at home or with me, I am a well-behaved, wonderful dog.I love to sit by my mom in her chair or cuddle in bed.
I am good with all people although at first you might not know that because I do bark at people when first meeting them. I’m kind of protective in my home, but that only lasts a couple of minutes and then I am fine!I’ve been with cats, too, and as long as they leave me alone, I will just sniff them.
I am a very obedient boy and although I haven’t hunted a lot lately, I am well trained as a hunter. My owner says I am an amazing dog – very sweet, cuddly and very gentle. I can be anxious and even destructive when left alone. But when someone is at home or if I am with my owner out and about on a leash, doing errands or going to a coffee shop, I am just about perfect.
