Huckleberry – ADOPTED!
I’m Huckleberry, a 1-1/2 year-old purebred GSP. I am currently living with my foster family who has three other GSPs (all foster failures). I really like to play with them, especially tug of war with the rope toy, with the 2-year-old male GSP. I’m a little shy when I first meet someone but get over it quickly, especially when I see that the other GSPs like the person.
I am learning some new commands such as sit/stay & heel on leash. I’m also being trained on an outdoor invisible fence. The only time I really get distracted from my training is when birds start flying overhead. I sure do like birds and want to run after them. ! I can’t wait until my training is completed so I can run freely with the other 3 GSPs!
I really like my foster family, especially when I hang out with them at night with the other dogs. Sometimes, my foster mom lets me cuddle with her and, boy, do I like that! I respond very well to positive praise and mostly come when called (except when those birds are distracting me!) My foster family really likes me and knows that I will be an excellent pet when I have a little bit more training and get a chance for lots of good off leash exercise! They just can’t keep me because they already have 3 GSPs which is their limit!
I don’t like to be left in the crate in a room alone so I will whine a little bit sometimes. However, I am learning what “no whine” means. If I am left in my crate alongside my other GSP friends (who are also in crates) when my foster mom has to leave for a little bit, I am perfectly happy and relaxed. So I think it would be best for me to go to a home where I have another active dog to play with.
All in all, my foster family thinks I am a typical young GSP with a lot of energy who needs some training! They say I am smart and attentive and learn quickly. I like them a lot but I know they can’t keep me. I am really looking forward to meeting my “forever” family who will give me off leash, running exercise every day, lots of cuddle time and, especially, who has another young, active dog to play and hang out with. That would be just about the best life I can think of.
