I am INGA, a purebred, 8-year-old German Shorthaired Pointer. But as my vet said to my dad a month ago at my check up, “She seems to be about 2 years old!” I guess that means that he thinks I’m in pretty awesome shape. I have lots of energy and love to hunt. Best exercise I know of. I am a really well trained GSP knowing all may basic commands and I even wait for my dad to give me a command to eat. I walk well on a leash and stop right away when I’m told “whoa” on a walk. I’m also hunt-trained and I LOVE to hunt. In fact, that’s probably my very favorite activity of all. I like fetch too, but that’s probably no surprise to anyone who has ever had a GSP in their family. I definitely need to get out walking every day and if my dad forgets or runs out of time, I will pace and be a little anxious to let him know I need my walk! When my dad is gone, usually just a few hours, I just hang out in the house. At night, even though I am crate-trained, when it’s time for bed, I sleep on my own bed.
I’m a very playful pup so I like being with other dogs. In fact, although I have been the only dog in my home for 18 months, I lived most of my life with my wonderful buddy Georgia. I may be a little Alpha but I’m not aggressive at all. I don’t know anything about cats but it might be good to remember that I love to hunt so I’m sure my prey drive is pretty strong! In fact, I do a perimeter check of our back yard every time I’m out there and scent check all the edges and corners of the yard. Although I really like spending time in the back yard and sometimes with other dogs, I love being with my people. One way I will let you know that is by crawling up on any human that happens to be horizontal on the couch. And I love finding a warm spot on a bed or couch that was recently vacated by a dog or human. I am good being around toddlers, too.
I don’t really have any behavior issues except you may wonder when fireworks are going off. You might think that I’m afraid of them but it’s really that they remind me of gun shot so I start pacing, hoping that it’s time to go find birds! I am really just a friendly, happy girl; in fact, I wiggle so hard I’m often referred to as “Wiggle Butt.” I love an adventure which is probably one reason I love to hunt. My dad tells other people that some of my best traits are that I’m well trained, affectionate and playful. I could be OK as an only dog but sure would be happier having another dog to be a buddy and to play with.
