Jacob – Adopted
Important things my new family needs to know about me:
1)I LOVE people, even little ones.
2) I love outdoor adventures especially off leash running, hiking
3) I’m very affectionate and love cuddling
4) I’m great with other dogs.
5) I have a strong prey drive and lots of energy so could probably hunt.
I am JACOB! And I’m here to tell you all about me. I’m an 8-year-old purebred GSP (you could probably tell that I am purebred). I may be older than some other GSPs in the rescue but you would never know because I am still very energetic and active. My owner and I used to live in Alaska where I had lots of room to get great exercise but then we had to move to an apartment so he has had to leash me daily. In addition, he now has to travel a lot now which isn’t easy on me.
My dad tells me all the time what a good boy I am. Maybe one of the reasons is because I’ve had good obedience training. I respond to sit, come, down and off. And I have very strong recall. I’ve been trained on a e-collar but because my recall is so good, my dad hardly
uses it anymore. I do pull on a leash probably because I am so excited to be outside.
My behavior in the house is awesome. My dad has used a dog gate and I’m very respectful of
it. I am allowed on the furniture especially because my dad covers it. When my dad is gone, I’m loose in the house and I usually spend my time on the couch which is where I sleep at night, too. Unlike many GSPs, I do not have separation anxiety. But I don’t really love being left alone because I love people so I want to be with them. I am great with anyone and that includes toddlers. In fact, my dad said he would trust me with a babybecause I am such a sweet, gentle, and extremely affectionateboy. I know a lot of GSPs counter surf but I don’t really do that UNLESS there are amazing things on the counter. I am an opportunist! But one other thing . . . I am afraid of really loud noises like thunder and fireworks. The rescue told my dad that isn’t unusual for a GSP so I guess I’m kind of normal.
I am such a friendly and happy boy and love playing with other dogs. I am definitely not an alpha dog but not really submissive, either. In fact, I am pretty independent at times, too, but that doesn’t mean I’m reserved. I just enjoy doing my own thing sometimes! But I know we could have lots of good times playing together if I had a family buddy.
Because I have a pretty strong prey drive, it’s great fun for me to chase birds. And you know what? I’ve actually caught a bird or two! I haven’t been formally trained but my dad thinks
I could hunt because I certainly have the drive and plenty of energy. Outdoors is where I want to be, as much as possible. I am great running off leash (remember . . . I have excellent recall).
And I love the water!
So, my very best qualities are that I love people and I am a master cuddler. I love being touched. And I’m very adventurous. I want to be with my dad so whenever we are out hiking or running and I‘m off leash, I always know where he is and I always come back, even without a training collar. Give me an outdoor adventure, someone who shows he or she loves me and wants to spend lots of time with me and I will be such a happy dog. And to have another dog to play with would be an awesome bonus.
