Hi Friends! I’m Jango, a German Wirehaired Pointer, the cousin with a beard to the GSP!
I’m not exactly sure how old I am but the shelter I came from and my foster Dad think that I’m right around 1 year but may be a bit under! My first family wasn’t the best experience and has left me a little scared. I was kept out in a barn and didn’t get a whole lot of quality time with people who could love me. My foster Dad also thinks they may have been unkind to me as I have had a really hard time trusting humans so far. I tend to walk around whale-eyed, keep my distance, and wait quite a while before trusting anyone. I also tremble and shake as many things scare me. For some reason, women tend to scare me more than men. My short life hasn’t been the happiest and I’m really hoping that an amazing person or family can change my luck. My first family didn’t feed me as much as I needed and I came to my foster Dad at only 42 pounds. I’ve put on some good weight since he brought me home and my ribs are now hidden! I’ve been getting back to normal activity levels and working on growing my confidence!
One area of my confidence I really need to work on is my house training and crate training. I love my crate but sometimes can make a mess of it because I’m nervous. If left alone for too long, I don’t know what to do and can be a bit destructive in my crate. Also, growing up in a barn, I had free reign to do my business anywhere and now think it is okay to go in the house. I know I can break these habits with some love and attention! I also think it would help me to have a doggie door and fenced yard so I could take care of these things when I need to.
Once I warm up, I am super affectionate,a if I do say so myself! Head scratches and ear scratches from someone I trust are the best. I also really enjoy being close to my favorite people once I trust them. I am very much a shadow in actions and appearance with my black and gray coat. I follow my foster Dad around the house all day, going wherever he goes. I can be trained to be on or off furniture but would much prefer to be on furniture to be close to my person, of course!
I love other dogs, especially at the dog park! Other GSPs/GWPs are certainly my favorite dogs so we run like crazy all around the park! When another dog is in my house, I can be a bit miffed, at least at first. I sometimes express this by peeing to mark my territory. I have a feeling I’d do well with another GWP or GSP or similar breeds? As for those felines, I have a pretty strong prey drive and might try to go after them. They look like big prairie dogs or squirrels to me!
I’m really hoping to find an amazing family that I can love completely and who can completely love and continue to train me. I can be the best boy ever with patience, love, and attention. I just need my shot to have that amazing life.
