Jasper – Adopted!
I’m so glad you want to know more about me! I’m Jasper, a 5-year-old purebred, female GSP. And from what my family has told the rescue, I am all GSP! I love spending much of my time in our yard so I can stalk squirrels and birds. Most of my exercise is in my backyard but I know I would be ecstatic to be able to run on trails or in fields with my family. They have had an electric fence so I used to wear a radio collar but I don’t need it now. I am extremely good about knowing my boundaries and I consistently honor them. Being outside is my very favorite place to be . . . with one exception. I also love being on my dad’s lap. Oh, am I a cuddler! I would rather be outdoors with the yard critters or close to my dad than hang out with the rest of the family. We have two very young children so there really isn’t much I can do with the kids, anyway. I don’t think I would be very happy in a family with young children.
I do know several commands like sit, stay, come, heel and potty and I am leash-trained, too. In addition, I have been trained on an e-collar but could use more practice. Sometimes I get a little confused because I have also been trained on a radio collar with an electric fence. I’m also crate-trained and housebroken. I never have accidents in the house! Although I’m not great with little kids, I do like most people and am happy to see them. I am an only dog in my family so I’m not sure how I would do with a dog housemate. I have some dog friends and I like them but, generally, I’m kind of indifferent to most dogs. You need to know that just because I don’t spend a lot of time with the very young children in my home and I don’t pay a lot of attention to other dogs, I am not an aggressive dog, neither with other dogs or people. So I’m not an alpha dog who might want to rule the roost. Not me! You may be wondering about cats. Since I love to stalk squirrels and birds . . . PREY . . . I’m thinking I shouldn’t be anywhere near a cat!
My family says I am a high-energy girl both in and outdoors. Typical GSP, huh?! They also describe me as playful, friendly, happy and affectionate. In fact, I heard my dad tell the rescue that I am a really great dog but I just need a home with family members who who will give me lots and lots of attention. If I could pick my new home, I would love one whose people treat me like a member of their family. I love it when my dad pets me and, as I told you earlier, when I get to be in his lap, I’m such a happy girl. I’m pretty sure that I would love to be able to be on furniture and, ohhh, if only I could sleep with my special person! Being in a family with very young kids is often not the best match for a GSP and I know it wouldn’t be good for me. Like most GSPs, I would love a family who has the time to give me a lot of attention for running – especially off-leash – playing together, and maybe even hunting since I seem to have a very strong prey drive. And my new family needs to love snuggling as much as I do!
