JuJu – ADOPTED!
Hi, I’m JuJu. I love my name. When I arrived in Colorado from New Mexico, my papers listed me as both Juliet and Sue, neither of which I responded to. My smart foster mom combined them to name me JuJu and I respond quickly and come running with my tail in a blur!
Though I am 10 months old and am a smart girl, I received little guidance in my early life and I’m only now learning basic commands. My foster parents have taught me “sit,” “ground,” and we’re working on “off” and “touch.” We have also worked on simple impulse control techniques that I’d be happy to show you.
While I won’t say I am definitely housebroken, I’m 90% of the way there and the minor accidents I have had inside were when my foster parents didn’t catch my wining clues quickly enough. Many times I do let them know I need to go outside and I always go to the same spots in the yard to take care of business. I sleep through most of the night, though a couple of times when I had to go, I alerted my foster mom and dad and we made it outside without issue.
A few more things to know about me:
I am probably a GSP mix. You can tell by looking closely at my paws, coat and my tail (when I stop moving, that is!). While I don’t know what I might be mixed with, I’m predominantly GSP, without a doubt. There might be some mountain goat running through my veins but my behaviors are definitely GSP!
And while I am10 months old, I’m still pretty much a puppy so remember that I have lots and lots of energy and want lots of play time.
When I first arrived at my foster parent’s home, they had a big crate set up and I
went in right away and laid down. I’m not too sure that I would like the door closed, though.
My foster brother has a comfy bed and I instinctively gravitate to it to lie down when I’m tired. I also like to gather his toys and collect them there.
I went to my GSP brother’s vet for a check up and they said I was very healthy. My
body shape was graded as #5, which is ideal! The vet and vet tech both mentioned that I was very sweet and very easy to work with.
While visiting a local pet store, I saw a kitten only 3 feet in front of me and immediately froze on point so deep, I didn’t even move my head when fresh jerky treats were rubbed against my nose! I was an immovable statue for more than 5 minutes until foster dad checked out and we had to leave the store. So, I’m not sure how well I would do with cats or other small animals in my new family. But I would bet that my nose and I would be awesome hunting companions.
My foster parents have handled my ears, my paws and have rubbed me all over. I don’t mind being handled anywhere. I especially love belly rubs and being scratched behind my ears and under my chin. I even let them clean my dirty paws with a Dexas Mudbuster.
I am really, really, really friendly with people and want to be close to someone. We
are working on learning to be alone at times but, like most GSPs, I have Velcro tendencies.
I like to play with my foster GSP brother who is 3 -1/2 years old and love to be outside so I would really like to be with a family that has a big back yard with a high privacy fence with active, energetic dogs that I can run and play with.
