Lily – Adopted
Foster Update:
Lily is a sweetheart! What a truly great pup! It’s so obvious this pup is from a home where she was immensely loved and well-trained.
I live in a home with no other animals and Lily will need to be in a home with no other dogs and, of course, no cats. In the short time I’ve had her, I can confidently say that she is incredibly well-behaved, she knows fun tricks, she’s fully potty-trained, she’s great on a leash, she’s non-destructive when I’m away,
and she loves to snuggle! Did I mention she gives the best hugs?! She’s so sweet and super cute in her pajamas!
She’d be a great companion for an active person because walks and/or runs are her favorite!! Once she’s been out and has good exercise she’s happy to chill on the couch or step outside in the backyard for a little extra sun on her face. She’s even great passing most dogs on walks. If a dog does get a little too close for comfort, she might pull and bark a bit, but with the gentle leader and a little direction, she stops, sits, and waits for you to say, “let’s go.” I can almost always catch her before she pulls or barks, though, so that’s mostly a non-issue as well. She’s a joy to take for walks!
It breaks my heart that her current challenges with dogs are due to being attacked by off-leash dogs and yet, she’s still so easy to walk because she’s so well-trained and trusting of her people.
She will bark a bit at a new person for a few minutes until she warms up, but give your guest some cheese and Lily is their instant bestie. It worked for me!
I just can’t say enough good things about Lily. She really just needs to be in the right home and this girl will steal your heart and be your best buddy! She really is such a wonderful girl and one of the easiest dogs I’ve ever cared for. She just needs a loving, patient home and this girl will shine!
Hi! My name is Lily, and I’m a GSP/coonhound mix. I’m six and a half years old and have been with my current family for over five years. My humans love me SO much, but they have come to the incredibly difficult decision to find me another home since I no longer get along with my sister (another female dog) and they believe I would thrive as an only dog. I get anxious around new people, so I may take some time to warm up to you, but if you are patient (and give me treats!), it won’t take long until we’re the best of friends! I love being around my humans and I give lots of cuddles and kisses. When I’m feeling cuddly, I will lay on top of you and “melt” into you, but I am also content to lie next to you on the couch. I also like to give hugs by putting my front paws on your shoulders and pressing my forehead against yours. My humans seem to think this is very cute!
I am a very smart girl and will do almost anything for treats! I know all the basic commands, such as sit, stay, come, shake, and lay down. I make Harry Potter fans very happy with a special trick called Avada Kedavra, where I dramatically flail about before playing dead. I also do well off-leash and have a strong recall with an e-collar beep or verbal command (my humans say they are happy to give my e-collar to my new family). I have lots of energy and need someone who can be active with me! Running is my absolute favorite and I am a very loyal running buddy, but I could do well with lots of walks, off-leash time, and backyard time (I do great with a doggy door). Since I’m used to runs rather than walks, I may get excited and pull on the leash when at a walking pace, but a little training should help with that (have I mentioned I’m smart?). I get so excited to go outside that I spin in circles! I also absolutely love toys and playing fetch with a ball. While I’m energetic during the day, I also love bedtime. I like to be warm and bundled, so my humans put me in jammies and wrap me in a fuzzy blanket like a burrito. It’s so cozy and warm and I adore it!
Now that I’ve told you all the things I love, there are a few other things to know so that we can find the best fit for my new home! My humans say I’m not dog friendly – I’ve been attacked by off-leash dogs while on leash, so I’ve learned to be wary of other dogs. I also would not do well around small children and would be happiest in a house where kids are old enough to respect my boundaries. I have a strong prey drive and would be a little toointerested in cats or other small pets – any time I see a cat, squirrel, or bunny while out on a run I can’t help but try to get it! I’ve never been hunting but could make a good hunting dog with the right training. Since I’m part coonhound, I do love to bark when I spot other animals. I also bark around humans I’m not familiar with, but like I mentioned, once I warm up to you I will be your best friend! I have a strong aversion to crates and will hurt myself if put in one, but I am fine being left at home for stretches of time (especially if I have access to the backyard). I am a counter surfer and may see if there is any food within reach if my humans are gone too long though! My humans currently work from home, and I am very happy that I get to spend so much time with them, so it would be amazing if someone is at home a lot in my new home too!
My humans say that adopting me and seeing me come out of my shell to blossom into the funny and sweet dog that I am now has been one of the most rewarding experiences of their lives. Please give me a chance and I’ll be the most loyal and loving pup for your family!
