Maggie ADOPTED!
Hi! I’m Maggie, an 8-month-old, purebred English Pointer.
Here are the most important things that I need in my new family.
Maggie Must Haves:
1. A family with at least 1-2 very active dogs (preferably under 5 years old) for me to play with
2. A family that does not have children that are under 10 years old
3. A family that allows dogs to sleep in their bed and up on the furniture
4. A very dog-affectionate family who wants to sit and cuddle
5. A family that has trained puppies before and understands positive reinforcement techniques
There are a lot more details about me below so keep on reading if you want more information about me.
I am a very typical young Pointer, full of energy during the day and an absolute love bug at night. I am just getting used to being inside a home and I’m working really hard at learning some of the basic commands. I am pretty good with sit, off, no, and here and I’m working on down and leave it. Like any young Pointer puppy, I can be somewhat stubborn and sometimes easily distracted so I am really looking for a firm leader (and probably someone who has experience with a puppy) who is willing to continue to teach me and reinforce what I have already learned.
My foster parents do not have children but think I would be ok with older children. As a puppy, I am still learning how to play and sometimes I can get a little rough so younger children would probably not be good. I would really prefer a home where there are other dogs young enough for me to play with and learn from. I’m kind of a nut and I LOVE to play so this is pretty important to me. My foster parents have a cat and although I am very curious about her, I have done great around her so a family with a cat would be ok with me.
I am crate trained and that is where I stay for 4-5 hours a day while my foster parents are at work. At night, I sleep up on the bed with my foster mom and dad or down on the dog beds. It is important for my new forever family to understand I am a curious puppy and I can still get into trouble if left unattended for too long. Since I was an outside dog, and I’m just learning the rules of being inside, my foster parents have been working on making sure I’m potty trained and I’m doing great with that. I’m so smart I picked up on the dog door at my foster parents house by just watching the other dogs in the house go in and out. I love being able to go in and out whenever I want.
I am doing great training off leash and I have pretty good recall. I’m not much of a “bolter” at all. I like to explore but never too far from my people and the other dogs. I am also doing really well at walking on a leash and would love someone who is willing to help me continue to learn that.
I’m so excited to find my forever family so I can be loved and give all my love to them!!!
