Mimi – ADOPTED
Most important things I need in a new family:
1) I need a family that will provide basic training such as sit, stay, come
2) I need a family that has another dog for me to play with and keep me company.
3) I need a family that will play with me and give me a lot of attention every day.
4) I need a family that has a containment system (fence/invisible fence) that will keep me home.
I’m Mimi, a purebred GSP about 6-months old. I’m a very petite, female. black and white GSP, weighing about 38 pounds. I probably will not get much bigger than I am right now.
My owners surrendered me because they didn’t have enough time to play with me or to train me. I am used to having children around as there were children in my last home.
My new foster family has four GSPs (all rescues ranging from 5 to 13 years old). I get along great with all of them even though I’ve only known them for a few days. (The 13-year-old guy likes to snap at me… but that doesn’t deter me from trying to play with him.)
Right now, since I am new to my foster family, I am being walked on their 5 acres with a “GoodBoy Dog Head Halter” (stops heavy pulling on leash) and either a 6-foot or a retractable leash. I have accepted the head halter with very few issues. I am not used to having so much space and am having so much fun exploring! I can’t wait until I am trained on the invisible fence so I can run and play like the other 4 GSPs I am living with. My foster parents walk me a lot on the 5 acres, and I really enjoy the smells of all the wildlife.
My foster parents think I have the potential to be a good dog, even though I haven’t had much obedience training. I have warmed up to my foster parents and their 4 GSPs quickly and I am quite loving and like their attention.
I am potty trained and haven’t had any accidents in the house… and I am allowed to run freely in the house with the other 4 GSPs. When my foster parents take me outside, I go potty immediately.
I wasn’t crate trained when my foster parents got me two days ago but my they say I am now (in less than a day). They say I am excellent at being in my crate (referred to as “BED”). I only whimper for a few seconds and then quiet down. I sleep in a laundry room in my own crate without crying/howling or doing anything else annoying and my other two GSP friends are also in their crates in the laundry room with me… and I just behave like they do. I learn quickly!
I also travel in a car in a crate well. No crying or whimpering. I just lay down and enjoy the car ride.
I am learning to get in my crate upon command and will progress to when the crate door is left open,
I will be expected to stay in the crate. After I master this, I will graduate to my own cushy bed in the living
room.
I am sometimes reluctant to sit, but we are working on that. I can sit quickly if I get rewarded for it (i.e.,
treat, collar on to go for a walk). I sometimes come when call but am bonding with my foster parents
and hope to get better at that too!
I have seen a few birds on their property, and they have gotten my attention. My foster parents are not sure if I’ll be a bird hunter or not. They are waiting to see if I catch on from watching their bird hunting GSPs.
