Oakley & Spencer – Adopted
Oakley
Oakley is a 4 year old, purebred German Shorthaired Pointer. He is left at home alone for many hours a day while we are at work/school and he is not in a crate. We leave a dog door in so he can go in and out as he pleases. He does know basic commands but could use some reinforcement training. He loves to grab food off the counter and no toy is indestructible to this guy. He is super playful, loves attention and cuddling, trades off sleeping with the kids at night, and is just a gentle giant. He barks only at the doorbell, and is calm and doesn’t jump when meeting new people. He needs more exercise than we can provide him right now, and I believe he digs because he is bored and starving for attention and play during the day. He definitely has drive to get squirrels and bunnies, but is not a trained hunting dog. He is pretty good on a leash and does well with an e-collar off leash. Training reinforcement would be a good idea just because consistent training wasn’t a strength for my family. Oakley grew up with us through COVID when we were at the park everyday. He has been a source of great joy for my family and helped us to grieve during a difficult time in our lives last year. However, now with a smaller house and busier lives with competitive sports, we are seeing that he needs and deserves more. We love him dearly but want a better life for him.
Spencer
Spencer is a 1 year old, liver and white peaches and ticked, purebred German Shorthaired Pointer. Spender was given to my family after we lost my husband and dad. He brought joy and playfulness back to our lives when we really needed it. But we never committed to training Spencer. We attended training but it was never reinforced in our home. He has puppy behavior, so jumping and playing with his mouth are typical. Pet his neck and you’re his best friend. He has been known to sit right on top of you. He is super playful, happy, and just a fun dog. Spencer is crate trained for during the day and also sleeps in his crate at night. He is still learning how to walk on a leash (using a gentle leader has helped) and would need to be trained off leash. He definitely has the squirrel bunny drive and thrives with the chase. I think he would be an excellent hunting dog with the right training. Info so many ways, Spencer has our hearts, but we are recognizing that our lifestyle and what he deserves doesn’t match, and we want better for him.
