Ollie – Adopted!
Hey, world, I’m Ollie. I came to MHGSP from a shelter in Aztec, NM. I’m probably best classified as a pointerish mix but what I can really be defined as is the undisputed middle weight champion of affection. If I had to guess what I’m mixed with I’d say either koala, panda or both.
One of my favorite things to do is wait for someone to make eye contact with me and then scurry over to you and start slapping you with my tail, shamelessly pandering to get a belly rub. I’ve got thicker hair than most GSPs, with about an inch of the thick stuff all around, so I’m a great winter time Colorado companion. I’m a little rounder in the belly than pure bred GSPs but that doesn’t bother me one bit; I’m comfortable with my curves and don’t have any unrealistic body image issues. I’m not a super high energy, crazy fetch machine but I’ll follow you wherever you go.
I’ve been to several dog parks and get along well with other dogs; perhaps I can be called even a little indifferent to them, but I’m always down for exploring new trails and don’t pull on a leash. When we get home, though, I’m more than ready to curl up at your feet or on the closest dog bed within eyesight of you and kick back for a snooze.
Although I haven’t been given the chance, I am probably going to be just fine with children, given my easy going demeanor. Maybe even cats. I haven’t had any e-collar training as of yet.
I’m estimated to be pretty young, maybe 1.5-2 years based on my white teeth, so I’ve still got a few lessons to learn about counter surfing and not chewing on things left on the floor. As soon as you tell me that I did something wrong I seem to understand and immediately give the saddest dog-face I can. But if you are patient and consistent with me (and keep your sense of humor), I’ll respond to your training. I do great in the crate, and hang out in there during the day when my foster pops is not home and I actually just like to hang out in there even when he is around. I like to gently coax an older GSP rescue buddy into wrestling and we’ve never taken it past the point where we’re both having a good time. I’m equally social to dogs and people so I think I’d be good in a house filled with dogs as well as one that’s more quiet. I’m just a calm and gentle pup who will provide a lucky home with tail wags and trail adventures for years to come. Oh, and if you want to call me Dobby because my ears make me look like the Harry Potter character, that’s fine too.
