Patches – Adopted!
Hello, thanks for stopping by! I’m Patches, a loving and adventurous 8- year-old Pointer who is looking for my new forever family.
I grew up in New Mexico, but my people didn’t spend enough time with me so I became a master of escaping yards. I didn’t realize how much trouble this would cause my people, but they decided it was best to surrender me as it was difficult for them to keep tabs on me. This shouldn’t be an issue if you let me be the indoor dog I so desire to be, and don’t leave me alone in the yard when you’re not around.
I want nothing more than to find a person who will let me be their companion. I really enjoy the company of my humans! I do very well on a leash and might do well off-leash with some additional training. Walks are a must for me so I can work off my need to explore. If you have an open field or large dog park that I can run around in, that would be awesome! If you set me loose in a field, I always come back. If you have other dogs, it might take some time for me to get comfortable around them. Cats don’t seem to be on my radar, so my foster folks think I’ll be just fine around them.
If you move around a lot, expect to find me shadowing you. I’m a big couch surfer, so I hope you have a comfy sofa! Did I mention that I enjoy cuddling? When it’s time to go outside, I’d much prefer that you accompany me, even for the short trips. Sometimes I like to play with toys, and you might even catch me playing tug of war with other dogs in the house. I may act coy if you offer me a treat, but love them!
I’m great about being left indoors without supervision; in fact, I’d much prefer this to being outside. At night I’ll just sleep on my bed or find another cozy spot to settle in. Crates and confinement really don’t suit my personality, but I make due when it becomes necessary. Car rides are the best! They give me a much-needed chance to see the world. In fact, I’ve been everywhere from Colorado to California and back and loved it!
Mile High GSP Rescue and my wonderful foster family have been taking great care of me. In February 2017, I was given a bit of a health scare. An odd tumor on my neck turned out to be a low-grade level 2 cancer. Two procedures later, the mass is removed and our vet says I should be in the clear. While having my teeth cleaned, we discovered some very shocking things about my past. At some point, I was shot in the face, which caused me to lose an upper K9 tooth and lead to another tooth needing removal. I have shrapnel that would be too challenging to remove all throughout my snout, but the vet says this shouldn’t have any lasting effects on me. I also had to have my lower right molar removed due to an abscess.
My ideal companion is someone who will share adventures and spend time with me. I look forward to meeting you and becoming your new best friend!
