Ruger – Adopted
Most important things for my new family to know about me:
Hi, everyone! I’m Ruger, a 1-1/2 yr. old, purebred German Wirehaired Pointer. My mom needs to find a new home for me because so much in her life has changed and she just doesn’t have time to train or manage me. She is a single mom right now with two very young children. Her husband has recently deployed and she is now doing daycare for several very young children as well. My dad was the one who did some training with me but he is now gone and my mom is so busy with her new life she really has no time to work with me. I do know the basic commands sit, stay and down but in order to be good boy in a new family, I will need more training. I do have a pinch collar but I’m so excited to be outdoors exploring that I still do pull on a leash. I am crate trained and also house trained but am not trained to hunt.
I live with another male dog and we get along just fine. I love to run around and play with him in our backyard but we aren’t getting a lot of exercise other than that. Since I am a GWP, I know I need a lot more than that in my new family because I love outdoor adventures. Currently, my mom is at home most of the time so my canine buddy and I are not left alone for more than an hour or maybe two. We have free rein of the house and are not kenneled. At night I usually sleep in my open kennel or on my mom’s bed with her.
I love being with my people and, like most Pointers, I am very friendly and playful. I am also very sweet and absolutely love to cuddle. Though I can be a little timid when I first meet other people, I’m good after a few minutes. I am a very loyal boy, especially to the person who trains me. And I’m very smart so I’m responsive to a loving owner. I will especially need more training to not jump up on people and to come when called. I’ve been without regular training for a few months since my dad is away so I do need consistent recall training, especially because I want to be able to run off leash to get the exercise I need.
My mom has a lot of children that she takes care of and their combined energy level is just too much for me. I need a home that is less stressful than when there are numerous young children around all day long. And I would love a family who has another playful dog. It is also important that someone in my new family will love me enough to continue training me and take me on regular off-leash adventures.
