Ruthie – Adopted

I’m Ruthie! As you can tell, I am a purebred German Shorthaired Pointer and I am 8 months old. I have a very busy mom who absolutely adores me but has realized that, as a professional, she is extremely busy, much more so since her new job has required so much more of her time than she had anticipated. She knows that she is no longer able to keep up with my needs and that’s why she wants me to have a home and a family who will have lots of time for me.
My mom has trained me very well so I know many commands. But I know that I’m not consistent with my recall. It’s really hard when there are things to distract me so I still need work on that. But I am crate trained as well as potty trained which means I never have accidents in the house. I’m eager to meet and be with people and but sometimes I’m over enthusiastic and jump up to greet them. Although I love my outdoor time and am very active, I’m pretty calm in the house. When my mom is gone, she does crate me. Like most GSP puppies I’m a pretty aggressive chewer so I have lots of toys so I won’t chew on things that are off limits. I’m still awfully young so she just doesn’t’ know if she can trust me alone yet. But that’s only for 1-2 hours occasionally, not every day. I don’t know how I would be if left in a crate for more than a couple of hours. Although my mom says I am really smart, I can sometime be a bit stubborn when my she wants me to do something. I am good about listening and following commands . . . unless there are things or other dogs that distract me!
I’m very well socialized because sometimes I go to doggy day care and also because I meet up with other dogs in my neighborhood. I adore being with other dogs but I have never met a cat so I have no idea how I would be with one of those.
I love spending time outside. I can play fetch all day long and I love chewing on rope toys. I also love long walks in the park, usually wearing a Gentle Leader, and I especially like checking out new hikes. I am a true explorer; in fact, my mom calls me a “master sniffer!”
Like most GSPs, I love life and always look forward to playing and running on the hikes my mom takes me on. But I’m still just a young pup so I do still need some training.
I adore all people and dogs and I make friends wherever I go. I’m very affectionate so I just wish my mom had more time to spend with me.But I know she really loves me and says I am a lovely companion.
