Sam – Adopted
These are important things that my new family needs to know about me:
1) I love being with my family.
2) I like playing with other dogs and am not aggressive.
3) I love attention and affection but also can be independent.
4) I need lots of regular exercise.
5) I need some work on recall, especially outdoors where there are squirrels and rabbits.
I’m Sam! And I have just come into the rescue so I’m anxious to tell you all about myself.
As you can tell, I am a purebred German Shorthaired Pointer and I am 4 years old.
I know basic commands and am crate trained (I’m never alone in a crate more than 3 hours)
and I’m house trained. If I need to go outside, I just whine a little and my mom or dad knows
what I need.
I’m good inside the house and love to be with my family although sometimes I just wander over
to my crate and just hang out in there because the door to it is always open. I’m really friendly
and good with all people; both my mom and dad say I am a “real lover” who really loves lots of
pets and attention. So although I love snuggles and affection, I can also be independent as well.
I like being and playing with other dogs but I am not at all aggressive. . . maybe even a bit
submissive. But I am such a happy boy who loves to play. I live with another dog and we often
play fetch together. But if she gets the ball first, I bark at her all the way back to my dad. I also
love chasing squirrels and balls in the back yard, going for walks and running off leash at dog
parks.
When I’m outside and off-leash, I usually want to explore so I’m a bit selective about using my
listening skills then. I’m just so focused on the squirrels and rabbits . . . right?!
If my new owner will work with me on recall beyond my backyard and dog parks, I know I
would love to run off leash in meadows and fields and on mountain trails. I have a lot of energy
so I really need frequent off-leash exercise in addition to active exercise in the yard.
I know that my mom and dad are really sorry about needing to find a new home for me but my
dad’s work hours have increased a lot and we have a new baby in the family who demands so
much of their time. They know they aren’t able to give me the exercise that I need nor the time
to spend with me like they used to. They just want to make sure that my new family will know
all about my exercise needs and will have lots of time to spend with me both at home and on
outdoor adventures.
