Wesley – ADOPTED!
I’m Wesley, a 5-year-old German Wirehaired Pointer, and these are the most important things for my new family to know about me:
1) I must have at least a 6 ft. privacy fence.
2) I need to be able to run off leash with a training collar (e-collar) almost every day.
3) I have Addison’s disease but it is very treatable and manageable.
4) I am very happy, friendly, playful and affectionate.
5) I would love having another playful dog in my new family.
6) I would love to continue hunting since I am hunt trained.
My markings are quite unique for a GWP and people tell me all the time what a beauty I am. I really wish they would say that I’m “handsome,” instead!
My mom and dad have had me since I was a puppy but they are needing to move into an apartment which they know would not be an appropriate place for me so they want to find me the very most wonderful new home and family who will give me all the exercise that I need.
I know all of my basic commands and I am crate trained, too. Of course, I’m house-trained unless I’m left inside for too long but if you are home I will whine to let you know I need to go outside. I am a very energetic and active boy so I need lots of off leash exercise every day. I am not very good on a leash unless I have my e-collar on which is really important for me.
It is essential that I have a big yard with at least a 6 ft. privacy fence that I can’t see through because I have a high prey drive. I have been known to escape our fence to explore so daily exercise with an e-collar is very important. Thankfully, I’ve been hunt trained to channel that drive and I love to hunt pheasant. That’s the best exercise of all!
I live with other dogs now so I would like to have another canine buddy in my new home, especially if my mom or dad is gone for part of the day. I wouldn’t be happy all by myself. I really like other dogs but I do play pretty rough, jumping a lot and wanting to be in contact with the other dog so a pup who is a lot smaller than I am wouldn’t be a good idea. Cats? My current family has one but he won’t let any of us dogs near him. Chasing him is really fun for me but probably not for him. My new family does need to know that I have been diagnosed with Addison’s Disease but it is very manageable with a couple of meds and I don’t even know I have it. And it sure doesn’t affect my energy level!
I have some wonderful traits but also some behaviors that I need to work on like escaping and digging. I also bark sometimes but then my family uses a bark collar for me. But you should also know what a friendly, playful boy I am. I’m such a happy pup and my family says I’m very affectionate. What do I most love? My family and, of course, run, run, running and hunting!
